It’s Time – 4 Points for Selling a Quality Watch

If you own a high quality watch then it’s probably quite valuable.  That’s why if you plan on selling it you need to know what is the watch’s going price.  Here are 4 Tips to making sure you maximize the value of the watch.

Tip #1: Know What Watch You Have

Not all watches are made the same so you need to make sure you know exactly the make and model of your watch.  The highest quality, and top dollar watches out there are from Rolex, Omega, Breitling, IWC, Cartier, Hublot, Panerai, and more.  Many of the Swiss watches hold their value better then their competitors, but don’t think those non-Swiss watches aren’t worth much.  Don’t expect to see much value form your old Timex or Swatch watch.

Tip #2: Why Sell Your Watch

Next you need to evaluate why you’re selling your watch to begin with.  If you just need some extra cash, that is perfectly fine but you don’t want to regret it down the road.  If you’re selling a family inheritance you might feel deep regret when you realize you won’t be able to pass the watch down to your own kids.  Be sure you won’t feel guilty when you sell the house.

Tip #3: Sell to a Reputable Dealer.

There are a million options out there for selling your watch, from the local pawn shop to your online options.  Be sure that you’re dealing with a reputable dealer that is going to give you top dollar for your watch, and don’t except any weird “payment” options.  If you end up going with the wrong buyer you might end up with less money then promised.  It’s easy to swindled when talking to these folks so be sure you’re working with good people.

Tip #4: Go where there’s a track record.

Unless you’re a watch expert, rely on someone who knows the business. In-person visits are ideal so you can meet the appraiser, they can carefully assess the watch, and you get a feel for the overall marketability of the watch. Carefully peruse consumer reviews, Better Business Bureau ratings, and professional credentials of any buyer.
